Duration: 90 minutes

In this workshop, participants will explore playful movements with boas, while focusing on musicality. We’ll use boas as an extension of your body; accentuating beats, crescendos and pauses with fluid expressive movements. Participants will first learn three tricks that will be incorporated into a mini choreographed routine. No worries if you don’t have boa, you can bring a long scarf! Shoes are optional.

Bio for Jessabelle Thunder
Jessabelle Thunder has been dancing across many a stages since 2009. She captivates audiences with not only her moves but the joy and passion that radiates from her as she glides across the stage. With just a wink of the eye and a powerful hip thrust, she’s got you hooked. In 2018, Jessabelle won 1st runner up at Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender and has been ranked in the Burlesque Top 10 2020 thru 2022. Her other accolades include, headlining many festivals, performing with Miss Dita Von Teese herself as part of her Strip Strip Hooray show and her Von Follies Show, being featured on television shows, to name a few. An international touring performer who’s taking the world by storm, she is the 8th and 9th world wonder-Jessabelle Thunder!

Bio for Shimmy Laroux
Shimmy LaRoux is a Chicago-based performer, teacher, and model. Shimmy was crowned Miss Burlesque World 2022, and in 2024, she was named the world's #36 most influential burlesque performer. She headlined the 2023 Tulsa Burlesque Festival and the 2023 Baby Grand Festival in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2023, she featured at the Panama Burlesque Festival, the Colorado Burlesque Festival, and What the Funk in Seattle. In addition, Shimmy closed the 2022 Dutch Burlesque Festival and performed at the 2022 Stockholm Burlesque Festival.

This workshop is designed for anyone looking to feel their body in a new way and move differently by understanding flexibility and movement. It’s all about feeling sexy in our minds by embracing freedom in our own bodies.

What to Expect:

• Tips for Flexibility: Understand your body and learn about muscle mechanics during the warm-up.

• Body Mobility: Exercises to enhance mobility throughout the warm-up.

• Accro-Dance Movements: Learn some easy accro-dance movements.

Workshop Description:

This workshop aims to give participants knowledge and inspiration to create captivating burlesque costumes through the exciting world of reveals! From quick-change hardware to temporary attachment techniques and pattern alterations, we will cover how to transform any garment into a reveal extravaganza! No sewing experience is needed.

For Who and How Many?
This workshop is for anyone who wants to incorporate reveals into their costume. While no sewing skills are necessary, a bit of craftiness is encouraged. There will be a maximum of 7 participants to ensure enough time for one-on-one questions.

What to Bring?
If you have a project in mind that needs a new reveal, feel free to bring it along!

Workshop Structure:
After a round of introductions, we will begin with a “show and tell,” exploring different hardware and techniques, alongside corresponding applications from Zizi's collection of costumes and props.

• Instant Hardware: Snap buttons, Velcro, magnets, etc.

• Temporary Attachments: Zippers, knots, hooks, buttons, etc.

• Fastening Techniques: Hand sewing, glue, sewing tape, etc.

• Textile: Basic guidance on which materials to use for different applications.

• Covering: Techniques like fringes, appliqué, and rhinestones (focusing on covering the reveal).

French performer based in Sweden, Zizi Buffet is a magnificent mix of drag and burlesque. Sweet, salty, and spicy, she serves up something you’re definitely craving!
